Reflection

Each week we’ll explore an “idea” or a theme related to mindfulness.

Through weekly exercises, journaling, & sharing, we begin to understand how our minds & bodies are connected. We practice being present.

Attribution

It is important for us to acknowledge & appreciate the history & roots of yoga, especially when we are borrowing from another culture’s healing practices for ourselves.

We will discuss “why” we are practicing & “where” these practices originated.

Conscious Breathing (Pranayama)

We’ll work on various breathing techniques & practice synchronizing our breath with movement.

Quieting our minds & noticing any subtle shifts happening in our bodies, we learn how to incorporate these breathing techniques into our daily lives.

Shapes (Asanas)

In correlation with our weekly themes, we’ll move together, getting in & out of shapes while tapping into our breath. This will help bring our minds back to the present.

Students will learn proper alignment for each shape, as well as instruction about how to get in & out of each pose safely.

Meditation (Dhyana)

When we practice our moving, breathing meditation practice, we learn to focus our minds inward, allowing thoughts to come and go.

Reflection & intention setting helps us to focus on removing any obstacles, along with anything else that no longer serves us.

Connection

Our ultimate goal is to find a sense of community, of connection, both to ourselves & to the world we are a part of.

When we combine Pranayama, Asana, & Dhyana we can learn to create comfort for ourselves when we need it most. And even when the world is at its darkest, we can always find the light within.

Here’s what my students are experiencing…

“I LOVE it! It makes me feel calm & I get to connect with the earth.” — Selah (5th grade)

“What I love about Shannon, is that she is so patient & calm in her teachings. My favorite part of class is using the Mindfulness Cards & writing down ideas in our yoga journals.” — Ani (4th grade)

“I love how classes help you to ‘be’ in the moment & not to worry about the past or future. Classes also help you to be more flexible. When I first started classes, I couldn’t touch my toes without bending my knees & now I can touch the ground without bending my knees.” — Avery (7th grade)

Mindfulness Series FAQs…

“Do parents need to attend, during Mindfulness Series classes?”

Yes! It is absolutely recommended. There is tremendous benefit to having parents join these sessions. Via direct parental support, you and your child(ren) have an opportunity to experience the effects of the practice together.

It has been extremely rewarding to witness the subtle shifts that occur for students, as they begin to connect more deeply to their breath, their minds, & their bodies, melting away stressors that infiltrate their lives on a daily basis. You will learn valuable tools that can be accessed & practiced anytime, anywhere.

Scheduling can be somewhat tricky, so I will do all that I can to work with your availability.

“Where do your in-person sessions take place?”

For anyone coordinating their own, private group sessions, it will depend upon the group size and site availability. For example, if we decide to meet at a park or yoga studio, I would need to reserve space for that day & time. We can also plan to meet at my home-based Garden Studio (outdoors).

“Do you accept credit cards?”

We now accept credit cards through Stripe! You can always choose PayPal or Venmo as well. I will also accept cash & checks if necessary.

For certain situations, i.e., the Teen Mindfulness Series, I am willing to offer payment plans or scholarships, based on individual needs.

“Do you offer refunds?”

I am happy to refund students on a case-by-case basis (ask me for details). I do have a 24 hour cancellation policy in place as well. NOTE: Special Events may not be eligible for refunds.
